Beeboppers

Beeboppers is our first music class, for three year olds. Each 45 minute class is filled with musical activities that train the ear and build rhythm, coordination and listening skills. We sing to encourage pitch, use percussion for rhythm, move for motor skills and play musical games and listening activities.

Parents join in as partners in the class. There's a growing focus on fine motor skills and early reading skills, which gives children a head start on any instrument.

Junior Course

The Junior Course is where children start learning piano. They're grouped in age appropriate classes of 45 minutes, and every child has a digital piano to use in class.

Each week covers piano with solo and ensemble playing, percussion for rhythm, theory and musical games to confirm their reading of notation, and music appreciation. A strong focus on aural training speeds up learning. Classes are kept small, relaxed and unpressured. Beeboppers and Junior Course classes are taught by qualified music specialists who are also preschool qualified.

More about the Junior Course

Why start early

Young children soak up music the way they soak up language. The early years are a good time to build the listening, rhythm and coordination that every instrument relies on later.

Research suggests early music education can support cognitive development, build social skills and confidence, and develop fine motor skills. It can also create a lifelong appreciation of music. In Beeboppers, music becomes a second language, one children begin to speak through play.

Our approach follows a simple order: what you hear, you sing; what you sing, you play; what you play, you read; what you read, you write. Preschool classes sit at the start of that order, so reading and writing music come from sounds children already know.

What a class looks like

Classes mix singing, rhythm and games, and from the Junior Course, piano. Here's what goes into them.

Singing

Songs and actions that build pitch and a feel for melody. Singing comes first, before any instrument.

Rhythm and percussion

Simple percussion instruments for keeping a beat and copying rhythms.

Movement and games

Moving to music, musical games and listening activities that build coordination and listening skills.

Piano and reading

Beeboppers starts on early reading skills. From four, the Junior Course adds a digital piano for each child and reading music notation.

In Beeboppers, parents take part in all of it alongside their child.

What comes next

After Beeboppers, children aged four and up move into the Junior Course. Junior Course graduates go on to the Intermediate Course, and children from seven can join the Primary Course. Both lead to the Extension Course from nine, with composition, improvisation and keyboard harmony.

Some children move to one on one lessons as they get older, and others do both. Our private lessons have no minimum age, so the teacher can tell you honestly when your child is ready.
